Assessing community needs an essentialexercise. It identifies various factors such as strengths,weaknesses, and resources in the community.Through the identification of strengths,the city capitalizes on them to increaselife quality. Weaknesses or problems should also beidentified to determine theirresolutions. The data gathered after conducting an assessment alsoplays a significant role in making otherimportant decisions (Larock & Gustave, 2014).
When assessing community needs, people have a chance of expressingtheir opinions and views. The aspect happensduring community forums or focus groups. It is also an opportunity toincrease cohesion among the diverse people co-existing in thecommunity. By discussing and suggesting matters concerning theirneeds, it increases understanding amongst them (Wambeam, 2015).
Community assessment needs are mainly focused on health, education,security, availability of essentialamenities and co-existing peacefully among others. Afavorable assessment will include a survey or study. Theresearch is how community members get involved by volunteeringfirst-hand information. Other sources ofdata are public records, consultants and other key informants(MacKellar, 2016). After collecting the data, it followsdeducing of analysis and findings.
Sharing the finding of the study with the publicis essential. Information can be posted on the communitywebsite or availed through other convenient ways. When presenting theresults, it is ideal torank them according to priority. The movewill assist in setting a budget for these needs.
