DEATHSENTENCE IN TEXAS

Due

In the United States, each state develops their laws regarding theform of punishments the criminals receive. One such penalty is thedeath sentence that is applied to individuals who have committedserious crimes. Texas is among the states in America that implementthe capital punishment. The paper seeks to explain why the deathsentence might not be an effective means of fighting crime in theregion.

Texas has been leading in the number of executions since the capitalpunishment was legalized (Brandt &amp Kovandzic, 2015). A furtheranalysis of the sentenced individuals indicates that some of thedeath penalty victims might be innocent. The medical experts who arecalled to testify in court may provide misleading information whileothers go to the extent of lying to ensure the victim receives thelethal injection (Brandt &amp Kovandzic, 2015). I believe that suchpractices imply that the real criminals continue to enjoy theirfreedom while innocent people receive the lethal injection. Hence, the death sentence may not curb crime in Texas.

Another reason why capital punishment is ineffective is that thecrime rate in Texas has been increasing, despite the governmentcontinuing to implement the death penalty (Brandt &amp Kovandzic,2015). The growth in crime rate indicates that the process applied bythe government in fighting crime such as capital punishment isinefficient. In my opinion, people need solutions to crime thatactually work. Hence, the criminal department in Texas should focuson approaches that do not deny people their right to life, but thosethat ensure crime rates reduce and enhance the state’s security.

In conclusion, the death penalty in Texas may have worked in thepast. However, I believe it is ineffective because of the misconductof the officials and its inability to reduce crime growth.
