Evidence-Based Nursing: Research DatabaseAssignment Form

Describe briefly your topic ofinterest/research question:

My topic of interest is: Treatment andManagement of Type 2 Diabetes. Today, managing diabetes is one of themost crucial areas in nursing practice. The number of diabeticpatients is increasing, thereby pilling pressure for nursingpractitioners to develop effective mechanisms of handling thecondition in the clinical setting. According to Norris,Engelgau, and Narayan (2011),more than 20 million people in the United States have diabetes. Type2 diabetes is the most prevalent form (Eng,Kramer, Zinman &amp Retnakaran, 2015).Treatment and management of diabetes is important in helpingdiabetics to recover from the ailment, thus preventing the onset oflife-threatening condition associated with the disease. Suchconditions include cardiovascular and cardiothoracic complications, hypertension, and renal failure. The choice of the topic wasmotivated by the relevance of treating and managing diabetes toevidence-based nursing. As such, nurses can use their personalexperiences in various clinical settings to provide the care thatdiabetic patients need. Evidenced-based practices (EBP) in nursingare crucial in aiding patients suffering from type 2 diabetes torecover from the ailment. Notably, this is attributable to the mannerin which EBP integrates the competence of practitioners and the needsof patients. Therefore, my preferred topic is vital in establishingthe extent to which nursing practitioners use evidence-basedmethodologies of managing and treating type 2 diabetes compared totheory-based techniques. Consequently, researchers can developimproved ways of treating and managing diabetes in health careinstitutions. In essence, this is important in finding effective waysof providing proper patient care to people suffering from diabetes.Accordingly, the current increase in the number of type 2 diabetespatients means that nurses in advanced practice have to find improvedways of managing the disease in and out of the clinical setting.
